Inciting Hope
Overview
Inciting Hope was one of my early freelance projects, a mental health and wellness app designed to help users manage depression and anxiety through guided journaling, meditation, and self-reflection tools. The app also offered personalised therapy plans and subscription-based advanced tools like CBT and mindfulness sessions.
My role was as a UI/UX Designer, collaborating with a small remote team and a US-based client. While the wireframes were partially defined, I was responsible for shaping the app’s design language, interface, and experience. Since the project timeline was tight, roughly 10 days for final design delivery, I had to make quick design decisions and focus on clarity and usability.
At that time, the design felt cohesive and functional, but today, after working on multiple client projects, I can identify several areas that could be improved and refined further.
Key Responsibilities
Prototype
The app experience starts with a calming onboarding flow where users log in and select their current mood. Based on their emotional state, from feeling great to really struggling, the app guides them through reflective prompts, therapy tools, or their progress dashboard.
Key features included:
Mood-based journaling prompts
Guided meditations & self-paced programs
Personalised therapy plans
SOS helpline & mental health resources
Subscription-based advanced tools
Each screen was designed with a soft, empathetic tone using warm colours and minimal layouts to create a sense of safety and calm for the user.
What I’d Improve
Looking back, I recognize several opportunities to make this app stronger from both UX and UI standpoints.
If I were to revisit this project, I would:
Redefine the flow: streamline user journeys, especially post-signup, where multiple options caused confusion.
Add a guided tour: help users understand app features instead of presenting too many actions upfront.
Reconsider dashboard timing: showing analytics immediately after signup added no value; it should appear after consistent app usage.
Enhance spacing and hierarchy: improve layout balance and visual rhythm.
Redesign brand identity: develop a more consistent color palette, typography, and updated logo to align with modern wellness brands.
Overall, Inciting Hope marks an important milestone in my design journey, it taught me the value of usability, iteration, and cohesive storytelling in digital products.
